The key to good communication is listening to understand the other person.
Not just listening to reply to the other person.
Too often we tune out to what someone is really saying or meaning. We miss their emotions and body language as they talk, we miss the pain they might be talking about, or we miss the excitement that they might be trying to show.
Listening to understand someone means we are fully invested in the conversation. We are listening, we are watching, and we are processing everything. This allows us to then respond with comfort, encouragement or support depending on what they need.
