Stressing out over stressing

The quickest way to derail yourself is to be stressing out over the fact that you are already stressing out about something.

It normally happens to me when things have been going well and something unexpected happens that threatens to impact whatever it is that has been going well.

I instantly hit panic mode which creates stress. Because I’m then stressing out, I’m not thinking clearly and I don’t think of all the logical solutions that could easily be applied.

Instead, I keep thinking of all the worst case scenarios. I let these play in my head and before I know it, I’ve created a catastrophic situation that it feels like I’ll never get out of.

I’m stressing out over the fact that I’m stressing out. I can’t think of all the possible options. I don’t know what to do. And I lose confidence in my decision making.

I have learnt to identify when this is happening and to simply walk away.

Stressful situations are always going to exist and we can’t avoid them. What we can do, is to know when to walk away from them and come back once we are ready.

This time away gives us a chance to calm down, think clearly and be ready to deal with the situation.

Once I come back to the problem, I can normally find a solution or sort it out within a short period of time. I then wonder why I was stressing out in the first place because it was never as bad as what I had first made it in my head as I hit panic mode.
